Department of Applied Sciences

The activities of the Department of Applied Sciences encompass scientific and professional work in the fields of agro-economics and rural development in agriculture, pedology, plant nutrition, plant protection, plant and food phytochemistry, food technology, animal husbandry, agroecology and their interconnections with environmental processes based on measurements, reanalyses and climate models, as well as other similar or related tasks assigned by the Head of Department and the Director of the Institute. Within the Department, there are laboratories for metabolomics and plant protection.

The Laboratory for Food Technology and Olive Oil Analytics performs analyses and research on the quality and characterization of olive oil as well as other fruits and vegetables. It conducts chemical, sensory and nutritional analyses for quality assessment, studies technological processes of olive oil production, and carries out research aimed at improving processing techniques.

The Laboratory for Soil and Plant Nutrition performs physical and chemical analyses of soil samples, plant material, and nutrient solutions.

The laboratory conducts research in the fields of soil sciences, soil fertility analysis, and plant nutrition.

Laboratory for Food Technology and Olive Oil Analytics

The laboratory provides services for chemical analysis of olive oil, processing of small quantities of olive fruit (up to 10 kg) into oil, and sensory evaluation of virgin olive oil.
